Enviornmental Stewardship

American Seafoods Group LLC is committed to responsible, effective fishery management, as healthy and stable fishery resources are at the core of our company’s success. Working in partnership with fishery managers and other industry members, we advocate and support measures that foster sustainable fisheries over the long term.

We understand that the privilege to fish carries with it the obligation, as stewards of a public resource, to protect and preserve the environment for future generations. Our company, along with other fishing industry companies, supports the research and management efforts that have resulted in Alaska pollock stocks at near all—time historical high levels after three decades of commercial fishing.

American Seafoods Group LLC, through its operations in Alaska, Washington, Massachusetts and Alabama, is involved in U.S. fisheries that are widely acknowledged as among the most responsibly managed anywhere in the world. To ensure that our nation’s valuable fishery resources continue to be harvested responsibly, our activities are based on the following principles:

  • Management of fishery resources to ensure sustainability over the long term;
  • Full compliance with regulatory authorities through comprehensive monitoring by independent federal oversight of all fishing operations and regulatory compliance;
  • Precautionary approach to fisheries management based on the best available scientific information;
  • Best practices and state—of—the—art equipment to minimize by—catch wherever possible, and to utilize by—catch when unavoidable,
  • Promotion of individual accountability for efficient use of fishery resources through dedicated access privilege programs.

American Seafoods Group LLC enthusiastically supports various organizations that help preserve our nation’s key fisheries. As a member of the Pollock Conservation Cooperative’s research partnership with the University of Alaska, American Seafoods donates $200,000 annually to fund scientific research that contributes to a better understanding of fishery resources and the North Pacific ecosystem. Between 1997 and 2000, American Seafoods Group LLC donated $600,000 to the Alaska SeaLife Center to promote fisheries research in the North Pacific.

American Seafoods Company, a subsidiary of American Seafoods Group LLC, was a founding member of the Pacific Whiting Conservation Cooperative and continues to provide financial and logistical support for ongoing fisheries research on West Coast whiting and overfished rockfish stocks. American Seafoods Group LLC continues to provide support through long—standing relationships to organizations such as Sea Share and SeaLife Center.
