Giving Tuesday: Western Alaska Community Grant Program

Share

American Seafoods has donated nearly $2 million to over 100 organizations in Alaska as a part of the Western Alaska Community Grant Board (WACGB). This program began in the year 1997 to provide support and assistance to the Alaskan communities.

Now, more than ever, it is crucial to provide support and show our appreciation to the communities we operate in. “As responsible citizens, supporting the well-being of Alaskan communities is a way of giving back,” said American Seafoods’ President Inge Andreassen. “It’s as simple as that.”

Every year, American Seafoods allocates funds to address issues impacting Alaskan communities such as food insecurity, elder care programs, and education. This year the program funded a variety of programs including a seedling startup project in partnership with Emmonak School buying seeds, seed starting trays, plant markers, seed starting mix, heating pads, and growing lights. Additionally, funds will be used to purchase food for shelter residents and to stock the food pantry, food/ snacks for students and to support Project Yuuyaraq to build a cabin for camping trips to teach subsistence activities.

We are deeply rooted in these communities that depend on fishing, and we do our part to support and advance each one,” said Kim Lynch who dedicatedly manages this program.

American Seafoods is grateful to these communities and the abundant fisheries that Alaska offers. We are tenacious to continue contributing to the American Seafoods Western Alaska Community Grant Program.
